Practical Vehicle Survival

Four days of backcountry vehicle repairs, recovery, creativity, and survival.

If you want to be more self-sufficient in the wilderness or even on road trips, this course is for you.  Centered around vehicles in the backcountry, you will learn basic diagnostics and repairs for commonly encountered failures.  You will also learn disabled vehicle survival techniques and how to stack the odds in your favor if you must walk away from a stranded vehicle.  No prior mechanical knowledge is required.

This class is for young adults age 15-19, no prior outdoor experience required.

  • 1L/32oz water container
  • 1 gal container such as milk jug (for water storage)
  • Food for 4 days (trips to town after hours are possible)
  • Proper/adequate clothing & footwear, incl. rain gear
  • Poncho or 2mil drop cloth 9’x12’
  • Foraging bag, haversack, or small backpack
  • 8” cable ties (8)
  • Individual first-aid kit
  • Camera or phone
  • Small notebook / pencil
  • Bandana or buff
  • Whistle (pea-less type)
  • Metal container for heating food and boiling water (Nothing double walled or insulated)
  • Toilet paper (1-2 rolls… you know better than we do)
  • Camp chair
  • Sleeping pad/mat
  • Sleeping bag or wool blanket(s)
  • Tent
  • Pillow
  • Towel & wash cloth or shower wipes
